(1) Introduction to Social Assistance Systems in US

(2) US State Safety Net Policy Regimes in the Post-Welfare Reform Era

講者Dr. Yu-Ling Chang (Assistant Professor, School of Social Welfare, University of California, Berkeley)

主持:臺大社工系 汪書華 副教授

講者介紹:

Dr. Yu-Ling Chang’s research agenda centers on the intersection of poverty, inequality, and social safety net programs for economically disadvantaged groups. She investigates current social welfare issues such as the impact of the pandemic on racial equity and the welfare-to-work program in California. Her work has gained notable recognition, receiving funding support from the US Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Chang is expanding her research to include cross-national comparative studies within a global context.

演講內容:

This study analyzes the US state social safety net regimes in the post-welfare reform era using inclusiveness and benefit generosity indicators across ten programs. Using 23-year multidimensional policy data and model-based cluster analysis, we identified four stable and distinct state safety net regimes. Findings provide crucial insights into the subnational variation in social safety net systems and their effects on poverty reduction for working-age families with children in the US.
