Department of Social Work
In 1973, in response to the increasing social problems, the Department of Sociology officially st up a social Work division. The educational objective of Department of Social Work is to cultivate students with high sensitivity to the society’s needs , who can leverage their professional skills and knowledge to realize social justice. We strive to accomplish these challenges facing the underprivileged in our society.

Composition of social work Department student:
By 2018, we have 210 undergraduate students in the Department of Social work pursing their Bachelor’s degree, 57 in our Master’s program, and 18 in the Ph.D. program.
Research Results
International academic exchanges
Academic conferences
Faculty members and students frequently attend academic conferences in Taiwan and abroad, presenting academic articles and carrying out academic exchange.
International learning
Overseas practicum
Since 2005, the department has facilitated social work international internship and has given students the opportunities of participating in overseas field work, including in United States, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam and Australia.
Lectures and visits
Lectures and visits to organizations corresponding to the courses, the Department has invited renowned social work professionals in Taiwan and from abroad for lectures, and arranged students to visit related organizations, so that the students can learn from the textbooks and classes, and have an insight into the social work practice arena.
NTU-UIUC Biennial Social Work Conference International conference
We have established close partnership with the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign(UIUC) School of Social Work since the 2010 the NTU-UIUC Biannual Social Work Conference, following the previous one held in Champaign, IL in 2015.
The next conference will be in May, 2019.
